E Series with two engines
On a yacht which is outfitted in the standard manner, with two engines, the concept of safety is relative. The two main reasons why an engine might break down are dirty fuel or propeller problems, such as a fish net or something else becoming caught in the propeller. Unfortunately, this problem cannot really be prevented in a standard two-engine yacht. Because, after all, you should always fill the tanks of both engines simultaneously at a single bunker station. In the Elling concept, you have the additional option of choosing a second engine in addition to the main one, with this second engine then serving as an auxiliary one.
The second engine is outfitted with a saildrive and combined with a hinged propeller. This hinged propeller is located at a considerable distance from the propeller of the main engine. In addition this auxiliary engine has a separate fuel tank with the option of switching over to the main tank in cases where the fuel is not the cause of the malfunction.
